The Birthcentre Limited

Perhaps you find the thought of giving birth in a hospital too clinical, and maybe the thought of a birth at home makes you feels too exposed - that's where our Birth Centre comes in. It has been especially designed for your comfort and safety in labour and birth.

Small and intimate and beautifully designed, the Birth Centre is adjacent to St. George's hospital in Tooting, and in an emergency you and your midwife will comfortably and easily be transferred to the labour ward; or the baby to the neonatal intensive care unit. Each room has been designed so that you will feel comfortable and very private, all doors lock, guaranteeing you privacy at all times. You will only be attended by a midwife you have formed a real relationship with, who will accompany you to hospital if necessary.

Your room contains a birthing pool, shower and ensuite lavatory for your comfort during labour. There is a sofa-bed for you to lounge on, a carpeted floor that it is soft under your feet, a view of the beautiful garden from your window and a telephone for you to ring your friends and relatives once your baby is born or to give them updates on your progress.

All of this has been designed with your comfort in mind, you are always welcome to come and see round the Birth Centre, we have consulting rooms where you can be seen by your midwife during your pregnancy or where you can see a variety of alternative practitioners - a masseuse, an acupuncturist, a homeopath and a therapist.

The Birth Centre is registered with Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth Health Authority as a Nursing Home and as such is subject to frequent and very thorough inspections by the Nursing Homes Inspectors. Women in the Birth Centre are able to take advantage of all pain relieving drugs and appliances available in any hospital.

Maternity Care
We asked the hundreds of couples we have looked after over the past twelve years what it is that they have wanted most from us.

SAFETY is the loud reply. Our top quality personal care underpinned by the latest research, with access to specialist medical services, has inspired our clients' confidence, as we hope it will inspire yours.

ACCESS is the next clear request - someone you can call on 24 hours a day, seven days a week, who can be at the other end of the phone or on your doorstep within minutes. Above all, that person needs to be someone you can really

GET TO KNOW and with whom you have a warm and trusting relationship, so that when you are in labour you will feel comfortable and relaxed. Equally important, you want.

PRIVACY You want to give birth with people who respect your privacy and sensitivity, who ensure that the door is locked, that people don't disturb you, that you can take up comfortable positions as you need to. All of those factors have been really important to the women we have looked after over the years.

For men, you have told us that you want to ensure that your partner is getting the very highest quality of care, and that she is happy with it. You want your child to have the very best start in life. You would also like to be able to get to know your midwives so that during the stresses of labour you have someone you can trust, who can advise you; someone who listens to your unique needs and respects you; someone who appreciates that you understand your partner better than we do. Our service has been designed for you as well as your partner and your baby.
