Perhaps you find the thought of giving birth in a hospital too clinical, and maybe the thought of a birth at home makes you feel too exposed - that's where our Birth Centre comes in. The Birth Centre has been especially designed for your comfort and safety in labour and birth.
Small and intimate and beautifully designed, the Birth Centre is adjacent to St George's hospital in Tooting, and in an emergency you and your midwife will comfortably and easily be transferred to the labour ward; or the baby to the neo-natal intensive care unit. Each room has been designed so that you will feel comfortable and very private, all doors lock, guaranteeing you privacy at all times. You will only be attended by a midwife you have formed a real relationship with, who will accompany you to hospital if necessary.
Your room contains a birthing pool, shower and en suite lavatory for your comfort during labour. There is a sofa-bed for you to lounge on, a carpeted floor that it is soft under your feet, a view of the beautiful garden from your window and a telephone for you to ring your friends and relatives once your baby is born or to give them updates on your progress.
All of this has been designed with your comfort in mind, you are always welcome to come and see round the Birth Centre, we have consulting rooms where you can be seen by your midwife during your pregnancy or where you can see a variety of alternative practitioners - a masseuse, an acupuncturist, a homeopath and a therapist.
The Birth Centre is registered with Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth Health Authority as a Nursing Home and as such is subject to frequent and very thorough inspections by the Nursing Homes Inspectors. Women in the Birth Centre are able to take advantage of all pain relieving drugs and appliances available in any hospital.
